Sport at Saltergate
Welcome to the Saltergate Junior Sport Page.
We have some incredibly passionate sport players that represent our school at lots of different events.
We want to show off their talents and hard work.
This page will keep you updated with Sports Fixtures, photos and results throughout the year.
GOLD GOLD GOLD
For the first time, we have gained the Gold Schools Games mark. This shows everyone, that we have a high number of children taking part in clubs and competitions. We were also the first school in Harrogate to gain this award THIS YEAR!
It is a real credit to all of the staff and children who regularly manage and attend clubs.
In particular, Mrs Turner without whom, this award would not have been possible to achieve. Her passion and determination has really made Saltergate Juniors love sport! Thank you for all your hard work.
In three years, we have gained both bronze, silver and gold. A brilliant end to a very successful 2015-2016. With only two competitions to go and a Sports Week to complete, our Saltergate Spirit will live on till the end of July.
Saltergate Sporting Hero
A brilliant piece of Saltergate news.
A former old girl (Rachel Daly) scored a goal in her debut performance for the England football Team.
Such an inspiration for all our children!

Hockey Finals 2016
Proud of these 6 children for their efforts in the Harrogate Finals.
An amazing achievement of 6th place.
Lots of Saltergate Spirit shown!
Hockey Hockey Hockey!
On Monday 29th March 2016, 18 year 5 and 6 students went to Harrogate Grammar to compete in a hockey tournament.
It was certainly one of the coldest days in February so far. The children in all three teams didn't complain once and really played to the best of their ability.
Because of their great work, our A and B team had to compete for 3rd and 4th place. Saltergate Spirit was incredible. Both parents, teachers and students were cheering on both teams and amazing attacking and defending was shown. In the end, Team A were victorious but showed the utmost respect to their team mates.
Not only did we get great results. We also won two bands for respect and passion.
Saltergate really are team players!
Miss D and Mrs Turner really are proud to watch you play!
In true rugby spirit, it was a mud bath.
The original venue was Harrogate Rugby Club but due to waterlogged pitches it had to be changed to Harrogate High School. We took a mixed team of 21, split over three teams. This was the biggest number of children we have taken so far.
A big thank you to Mr Rowntree for coaching and choosing teams. It was a pleasure to watch children excel and have positive competitive spirit. This tournament was only meant to be one evening but due to the number of matches and children, it has now been extended to another date. This means we do not have any results for this tournament just yet.
But watch this space...
Another amazing start to our Spring term.
We have taken part Gymnastics, Tag Rugby and Hockey.
We have worked hard to take more children in each of these sports. In Gymnastics, Year 3 and 4 took part in their first competition at Harrogate High. They worked very well as a team and finished 9th and 7th place. These children had taken part in extra gymnastics clubs in order to be ready for this competition. Incredible Saltergate Spirit was shown.
Our Year 5 and 6 teams, also did well. Our B team finished 6th and our A Team came first. This meant our A team qualified for the Harrogate finals! This is the first time this has happened.
A week later, a team of 5 children took part in the finals. It was clear they had practised really hard at home and excelled in the body management, floor and vault routines. Due to this effort, they came 2nd! This is an amazing achievement. The whole school is very proud of them.
We have already got off to a winning start in 2016. We have been awarded another silver award by the Youth Sport Trust. This is something that we have worked extremely hard for.
We have already taken 8 Year 4 children to a Change for Life Festival. They represented Saltergate very well. Ella Brecken won the band for respect!
On Monday 18th January, Year 5 and 6 have their swimming competition and on the following day Year 3 and 4 are attending SportsHall athletics competition.
Keep watching this page and our twitter to ensure you are kept up to date with results of competitions throughout the Spring Term.
